I often think back to that day when I had to use the phone to explain the things I was hearing. The response I received was, “There’s nothing you have that worries me.”

What makes it even harder to understand is that the night before, I had spoken with the Cornwall First Response team for around 90 minutes. They listened carefully to what I was experiencing and expressed concern about my symptoms. Yet the nurse whose role was to provide support and compassion appeared completely dismissive.

That was two years ago. Only now are professionals suggesting that what I was experiencing may have been psychosis, or at the very least symptoms associated with psychosis.

This experience happened with my local Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), and it has had a lasting impact on my trust in the service. After the way I was treated and the concerns that were overlooked, I do not feel that I can trust them again.
